Brian Eno's Brilliant Solo Debut

by starcollector starcollector is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, , Apr 11 '07
Pros: The weirdness, the melodies, the awesomeness
Cons: Nothing at all.
(Disclaimer: Those looking for a brief description of the album will find what their looking for in the "Album Overview" section. The section titled "Detailed Track Discussion" is meant only for those who want to read detailed descriptions of ...

Hope your hangar's big enough to accomodate them

by pyfr pyfr is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 20 '04
Pros: As experimental as early 70's pop could get. Imagine Bowie really letting loose.
Cons: Many of the songs fail to move me. Don't worry though- he got better!
As a newcomer to the Roxy Music experience (I purchased all of their studio releases recently), I have arrived at the conclusion that they were vastly overrated. Sure, they might have been innovative for their time, but most of their songs just refuse to ...

When he went out and made some noise on his own

by ruddi , Feb 10 '04
Pros: Fresh, bizarre takes on rock music, highlighted by "Cindy Tells Me" and... everything else.
Cons: If you expect chillout music from Brian Eno, this ain't it.
Glam rock was an attempt to bring out the theatre and wildness associated with rock'n'roll from the beginning, then take it bigger. Absurdly big if need be. Most bands from the original wave have been forgotten, but David Bowie and his band ...

You probably won't like it (But who cares what YOU think)

by PezKing , Mar 29 '00
Pros: Ingenious compositions, way ahead of its time.
Cons: Very acquired taste. doesn't make much sense, but listen for the sound, not the message, anyway
Most people have only heard Brian Eno by his reputation as a producer, or through his collaborations with David Bowie. That is probably a pretty good thing. Not that his own music isn't good, but it is certainly not meant for mass consumption. He writes...

I was just ahead of my time

by chessiecat , May 18 '01
Pros: Wee Wow Factor, Robert Fripp's guitar
Cons: To weird for most taste
I still have the original pressing of this wonderful and somewhat strange album, and when I would listen to it in my misguided college days, suffering much ridicule for my "taste" from friends that thought Jimmy Page was God.

This was Eno's...

Freak your boring friends out

by nancy.raygun , Jan 03 '01
Pros: Amazingly original music
Cons: A bit uneven; requires more mental effort than mainstream tripe
After collecting David Bowie's "oeuvre" (sic) for years, I wondered why the quality of his albums was so wildly variable.
Digging through liner notes made me discover all my favorite albums were produced (or contained songs written with)...

Weird Pop.

by mute , Jul 27 '00
Pros: Varied tracks, lots of oddness.
Cons: I can't say anything here without being snooty.

This is one of Eno's three or four pop albums. He made this right around the time he left Roxy Music, at the height of the seventies, in the midst of glam and weirdness and people being strange all over the place, and it shows. His lyrics here are...
