| sirenbrian's Full Review: Before & After S?ance - Brian Eno Movies |
I cannot believe I'm the first to write an opinion on this wonderful album. The beats are strong, the lush warmth cradles you and rewards your ears and mind with scenes, depth and pleasure. The lyrics roll off your tongue with ease, even if you're not sure what you're singing about.
The first side...yes, this was a record and the tracks are organized as such...has several up-tempo songs with complex and catchy rhythms behind them. "No-one Receiving", "Backwater", "Kurt's Rejoinder" and "Kings Lead Hat" are all cool, fun songs to sing. Crank 'em up.
My favorites though are the quiet songs. I'm there on the boat with Julie ("Julie With"), bobbing in the too-still sea. Sitting beside Spider on a world without sound and entranced by the peace and simplicity of "By This River".
The album was very well recorded and the CD stands up well on a good quality system, even though it's quite old now. Eno is both a poet and master technician...go out and enjoy this album. Or stay in and enjoy it; you'll be glad you did either way.
PS My choice of "Great Music to Play While..." below is for the fast songs...the quiet songs are great for relaxing, of course.
